About Botulinum Treatment
Cosmetic injectable treatments like Xeomin, Dysport, and Botox are designed to temporarily reduce the appearance of facial fine lines and wrinkles. The most commonly treated areas include frown lines, forehead creases, and crow’s feet around the eyes. These professional aesthetic treatments can also be used in other areas such as the jawline, mouth lines, and “bunny lines” on the nose.
Pre-Treatment Instructions
Inform your provider if you have a history of cold sores or other skin sensitivities.
Avoid anti-inflammatory or blood-thinning medications, including aspirin, ibuprofen, or Aleve, for up to two weeks before treatment unless prescribed by your doctor.
Avoid herbal supplements such as garlic, ginseng, vitamin E, omega-3, ginkgo biloba, and St. John’s Wort for two weeks prior.
Schedule treatments at least two weeks before any important events, as temporary swelling or bruising may occur.
Avoid alcohol the week of your treatment.
Consider taking Arnica a few days prior to help minimize bruising.
Arrive with a clean face, free of makeup or topical creams. Your provider will cleanse the area before treatment.
Post-Treatment Instructions
Avoid heavy lifting, saunas, hot tubs, hot yoga, facial massage, or vigorous exercise for at least 4 hours after treatment.
Do not apply makeup on the day of treatment.
Keep the treated area out of direct sunlight for approximately 4 hours.
Mild swelling, redness, or bruising is normal and should resolve within a few days.
Avoid scheduling important events immediately after treatment; allow time for recovery and optimal results.
Full results may take up to 10 days to appear; contact your provider for a follow-up if needed.
Call your provider immediately if severe or worsening side effects occur, such as significant pain, persistent swelling, blisters, or a severe skin rash.
